Transporting Large Instruments
Dear Parents,
Due to route consolidation and the changes associated with 6th grade students riding elementary route buses, it may not be possible to transport all larger band instruments.  Please note the following procedures for all students (K-12) wishing to bring these instruments on the bus.  These procedures will take effect November 14, 2011.

Safety and sufficient space for the students assigned to our routes are among Transportation’s top priorities. All buses may not have enough space for both students and larger instruments. Because of this, students who wish to carry instruments on the bus that are larger than the size of a trumpet must obtain authorization from the transportation department prior to bringing the instrument to the bus.

Please check with your band teacher before selecting instrument cases.  Some bell kit cases, for example, may not fit in bus seats. Tubas cannot be transported on route buses at any time.

Please know, the student is responsible for their instrument at all times.

The following conditions must be considered for approval:
  • The instrument cannot take up space needed for students and cannot be placed in the aisle.
  • The student must be able to handle the instrument without assistance, and must be willing to sit in a reserved seat in the front of the bus.
Authorization forms may be found on the Transportation Department website.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Please contact Vicki Tomberlin at (719) 785-4225 with any questions you may have.
